I am a television journalist & the Founder/Editor of the Breaking into Broadcasting Project.

Independent of my involvement with this project, I work as a News Correspondent at CNN World Headquarters in Atlanta, mainly covering news in the southeast region of the United States.  For more than a decade now, I worked in news local newsrooms from coast to coast, and I’ve worn many hats — from general assignments reporter to cops & crime beat reporter, news anchor, radio contributor, and short-doc producer.

Over the years, it has been my pleasure and privilege to work with hundreds of beginners – passing on the lessons of big “J” journalism I was lucky enough to learn from mentors who took time to help me. Creating Breaking into Broadcasting seemed to be the logical next step.

The Breaking into Broadcasting Project is dedicated to two wonderful people who opened the door for me.  I started this site in honor of my college Broadcast Journalism teacher at The University of Texas at Austin, the late & great Dr. Marilyn Schultz.  Dr. Schultz was a firecracker, and one hell of a teacher.  This project is also dedicated to Texas news legend and once executive of the A.H. Belo Corporation, the late Marty Haag.  The man who, after my first stumble in this business, continued to believe in me – told me to pick myself up – and demanded that I go forth and “kick some major butt.”  I still live by Marty’s words.

Breaking into Broadcasting is a subsidiary of my company, Geoscope Media.
