Now & Next: The Wireless Association

I just returned from attending the fall show for the wireless association, CTIA. With 91% of the population connected wirelessly, the effects on how we live and work are always evolving. Imagine a conference where everyone is deeply engaged in cell phones, real conversation is minimal and walking into walls is a real liability! Well this wasn’t really the case, but I had pictured it as such.
As we sat and compared mobile screen quality on the new HD mobile devices you have to think, not too long ago viewing video on our phones was limited to certain devices and a bragging right to have.
So where does the future lie in mobile? It was quite obvious that it lies outside of just phones, with the connectivity of every wireless device merging together. In only a years time we’ll be complaining that we don’t have a car that speaks to our phone for GPS, information searches, music, email and calls. From your coffee machine to your TV to your mobile phone, they will all be communicating together to make our lives as convenient as possible.
As a cable operated channel it will be important to start building a wireless presence with an application. Applications can now be built to be viewable from your TV, phone, tablet, and soon enough who knows – maybe even your coffee maker. “Good morning, your coffee is freshly brewed for a beautiful day of 72 degrees would you like to update your FB status?” Having an wireless application is the first step in connecting your fans in a more interactive direct way. People will increasingly be moving away from traditional broadcasting and into individual network applications for their programming. Why pay for channels you don’t watch when you can install an application with the exact programming you are interested in viewing and watch it wherever and whenever you wish! What kind of application best fits your business and audience demographic?
