Success Stories: Krista Homiak; “Broader-caster”

Check out this clip from the winner of the National Association of Broadcasters’ “I’m a Broader-caster” competition. Krista Homiak of Denver submitted the winning entry. I thought I’d share it with you, because her 60 second short does a terrific job of showing how media platforms are merging in the eyes of consumers to work together in content delivery.

I remember the fear among many traditional broadcasters who, just ten years ago, worried that the word convergence meant online media would eventually “take over everything”. Instead, that rumored take over seems to have evolved into something much more sophisticated. Media consumers have grown accustomed to a blend of media platforms. People still turn to television en masse for the big game, breaking news, and for their favorite shows. But now, they also conveniently view programs and podcasts on their laptops. And in cases where the laptop seems inconvenient, we now turn to our iPads and iPhones for videos, apps, and everything in between! Different devices have different uses, but they all blend together for consumers.

I really like the term “broader-caster”. For journos, documentary producers, and film makers, it means new outlets to share content with a more people. There is still some fear among traditional broadcasters, but the majority of people I know are embracing the innovations. Krista’s video really pulls it all together!
