Tai Takahashi: Television News Director

I was born in Japan and was raised in Kansas. My passion for writing came at an early age. I’ve always been fascinated by words; ever since I learned how to read, I have done so at an obsessive pace. As a child, I often took weekend trips to the library. My sisters and I were known for taking small boxes and checking out fifteen to twenty books at a time. We’d be back two weeks later for more.

My love for books eventually blossomed into a love of learning. I wanted to learn about everything and everyone. Although I didn’t realize it at the time, the passions eventually paved the way to a career in Journalism – a perfect mix of researching, learning, reading, and uncovering the truth.

Since entering the business 20 years ago, I have been fortunate to serve as a Reporter, Fill-in Anchor, Producer, Executive Producer, and currently News Director. My greatest joys come not from my own achievements, but the achievements of those with whom I work. I’m proud to say my newsrooms have won close to 20 Emmy awards and 2 national Edward R. Murrow awards.

I look forward to sharing thoughts and ideas with those who seek out information on Breaking into Broadcasting. You’re taking the first step toward a great career. The first bit advice I can give you is to never stop learning. When you are in a position to teach, make sure you take every opportunity to give back; you may be instrumental in launching the career of a future network news correspondent! We have all been where you are today.

I look forward to helping you walk down the road to where you want to go.
